Video Frame Rate Calculator

Compare frame counts, calculate conform duration, and understand the timing change before converting footage.

Maintain original duration

1,798 target frames

Source contains approximately 1,439 frames; conversion must add or synthesise 359 frame positions.

Play every source frame once

00:00:48.015

Playback speed: 125.000% of the source timing.

How to interpret the result

Maintaining duration and conforming playback are different operations. Maintaining duration keeps the programme length but requires frame dropping, duplication, blending, or interpolation. Conforming plays every original frame at the target rate, changing both speed and duration.

This calculator describes timing only. It does not predict motion-interpolation quality, cadence artefacts, shutter appearance, or audio-processing results.

Frequently asked questions

What happens when I conform 24 fps footage to 30 fps?

If every source frame is played once at 30 fps, playback becomes 25% faster and the duration becomes 20% shorter. Maintaining the original duration requires duplicated, blended, or interpolated frames instead.

Does changing the frame-rate label create new motion detail?

No. Relabelling changes playback timing. Frame interpolation can synthesise intermediate frames, but it can also introduce visual artefacts and should be reviewed shot by shot.

Why are 23.976 and 29.97 common?

They are fractional rates inherited from television timing systems. Production and delivery tools commonly display rounded labels such as 24 or 30, so confirm the exact rate before conversion.
